Music Tuition
Music at Joseph Hood
Music is a very important part of school life at Joseph Hood and is timetable into the curriculum throughout all year groups. As well as class music lessons and regular singing assemblies, all our pupils have the opportunity to further extend their musical knowledge and talent.
We are very fortunate to work in partnership with Merton Music Foundation (MMF). As well as primary schools like ours, the foundation supports bands, choirs and orchestras for young musicians in our borough. In Joseph Hood, all children in Year 4 learn to play the trumpet and are taught by MMF’s specialist music teachers.
Thanks to the Merton Music Foundation, our students have also had the incredible experience of performing at The Royal Albert Hall.
We also have a fantastic choir that meet once week after school to learn, practise and rehearse a vast array of songs.
Many of the children in our school also have individual or group instrument lessons with MMF tutors.
All our musicians and singers have the chance to perform to our families in a special concert at the end of the school year.
Instrument lessons
Merton Music Foundation offer a wide range of instrumental lessons which are given by experienced tutors and held in school during the school day. Group, shared or individual lessons may be requested and there are choices for the length of lessons.
MMF also offer after-school and Saturday lessons at their music centre in Morden.
